Some years ago there was an alarm clock made that when it went off, it would jump off the nightstand and run across the floor to hide. You had to get out of bed to go find it.

I remember this old Irving Berlin tune from my childhood (my Dad used to sing it to me). “Oh, how I hate to get up in the morning…” Here is the link if you don’t know it. (Wait for the chorus; you’ll recognize it, I think). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CnH-bkp277Q

Can you make your own alarm noise on a smartphone?

Look up “Clocky”, which is a new version that appeared on Shark Tank.

How about a clock which shakes the bed harder and harder until it dumps you on the floor if you don’t wake up?

That sounds like me when I was in the army and had to wake up the troops.

Reminds me of when I went with my son (now 30 years old) on Cub Scout camping trips. In the morning the scoutmaster would enter the cabin and regale us with his intentionally loud, raucous and off-key rendition of “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning.”

Recently the Toronto Blue Jays gave away thousands of Buck Martinez GET UP alarm clocks. Buck is their TV announcer and his home run call is “GET UP BALL!”

I used to have a LOUD alarm clock, and when I simply HAD TO GET UP, I’d place it on a small table near my feet, so I couldn’t just reach over and turn it off in my sleep.

I did something similar to what Betty is doing years ago when I was in high school. I used a cassette player and a lamp timer. My dad, who had a loud baritone voice, supplied a wakeup message similar to Betty’s.
