That would work for our dog. She goes to another room when the vacuum is turned on. Same for the lawn mower if she’s in the fenced back yard while I am mowing. She will run to the opposite end of the yard. On the other hand, she usually accompanies is on our daily walks.

Or a bath. Or become a vet.

that advice sucks

my dog comes running to the vac! It is in the classic play stance, makes a growly noise and smells like everyone in the house all smashed together! My other dog, I suspect, doesn’t like it because it is too loud…and I tend to agree.

We once had a dog who had a habit of nosing about the garbage can. Finally we got to putting a mousetrap on the lid of the can. Once she heard the trap snap once (didn’t hurt her), her eyes got as big as saucers; and she never went near the can again. It got to the point where all we had to do was put an unset mousetrap on the can when we left. She would never bother it.

Had a neighbour whose dog was terrified of the vacuum cleaner. After they had a baby, whenever they pulled the vacuum cleaner out, the dog would stand in front of the crib and growl at the thing.

I had a cat that would follow the vacuum around or ride on the canister, until you vacuumed him. He loved to be vacuumed.

I had a couple of dogs that would tolerate being Shop-Vac’d and one that would play attack the vac, whenever you got ready to clean.

You need to use one of those rechargeable ones that you can turn on when you see the dog.

My dog attacks the vac, the mower, and the weed eater. Bites them. Even after getting a cut from the weed eater string he still does so. They are all in on the evil super villain Doctor Vaccum’s plan to suck in the whole world and they MUST BE STOPPED!

I used to have a dog who loved to be vacuumed and also loved to stand in the exhaust “wind” from the (canister) vac. Silly dawg…miss him. :-/

Nature abhors a vacuum.

A vacuum cleaner makes a high pitch hum that a dog’s ears pick up as being unpleasant, so bring a batter powered hand vac and scare to dogs away.
