Lucky Pucky. When I was a kid, I thought it would be cool to have a ghost for a friend (explains a lot, right?). Now, when the conversation comes around to Ghost stories- especially romantic ones- I always think of “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir”
Tre-C nodded; “I get it. The CC company isn’t going to let him off the hook for the charges just because he claims it wasn’t him, particularly if the card is addressed to that house.” “And worse”, Megan added, “if the credit agent starts to go over those charges while the spouse is there, the purchase receipt will likely only show ‘entertainment’ on today’s date. How do you think that’ll play in the Jones’ house?” “Not well, to say the least. You got a plan?” Megan looked around; “Yes… I have nothing against having fun, but this… I need to end this. And don’t make me give you a grammar lesson while we’re here..” Tre-C sighed; “Do you HAVE a plan?” “Good Kitten.” Megan got up, stretched and began grooming herself, “Act natural, what’s going to happen will happen very quickly. The crowd at the main dance floor is just starting to get thick. I want you to work your way over there and ‘accidentally’ disable that card reader. Even if they have another, the time it’ll them to bring it out is all I’ll need. After that, you’re going to be on crowd control. Brace yourself for it.” Tre-C stood up and stretched. “So, what’d you think of the salmon?” Megan licked her chops; “Second best I’ve ever had..”
Somehow the interior of that box now looks a lot larger than when Puck was jumping into it. Maybe he shrank from despair? Alternatively, it’s a magic box, as some have been insisting. ;)
I’m betting on Winifred Quinn & Tillie to stir things up enough that somebody with lifting abilities can come up & save the day.
A determined spook can accomplish a lot. I speak from experience!
Dad had to go to the attic a number of times to turn off the darn light. He finally got ticked & took the bulb out. We were all leaving for the night & the light was back on!
Dad said “the heck with it” & we ignored it. It was years before I’d go up those stairs without someone with me!
Hurrah for Tillie. She obviously now knows she is a ghost; when we first met her she was still thinking that the construction that killed her was still going on. Presumably she also now knows what she can and cannot do as a ghost. How exciting to see how she is able to help Puck….stay tuned!
Condolences to Pam’s family, kitties and the BCN community. This poem by Patrick Phillips from “Boy” is my favorite when confronted with a loss.It will be the past and we’ll live there together. Not as it was to live but as it is remembered. It will be the past, We’ll all go back together.Everyone we ever loved, and lost, and must remember. It will be the past. And it will last forever.
Good morning and happy Friday/TGIF, orbsters and orbabies. It’s fruitcake day here today, as I get ready to bake my annual batch. Mine don’t get used as doorstops, they are yummy and much appreciated by those I give them to.
On a sadder note, for those who missed my post yesterday afternoon, our friend Pam (ppyfss) passed over the Rainbow Bridge yesterday afternoon. She is forever young, happy and healthy with her darling Precious and all her other furbabies who passed before her.
I wonder if the latch caught on the trunk lid? If not, I bet Pucky could use his handy walking stick (which I notice we’ve never seen him carry before this particular adventure… Hmmm…) to push up from inside and prop the lid open enough for him to get out. Maybe Tillie will even suggest the idea to him. She might not be able to lift the lid, but she might be able to talk him through how to do it himself… Then again, that would resolve things far too easily and wouldn’t give us a chance to meet that new ghost cat who was hanging out in the dumbwaiter shaft with the ghost mouse. I’m torn, as much as I want the drama, I more want Pucky out of that trunk! #Conflicted
My copy of Uncle Whiskers arrived today. I had ordered a used copy, and I could have sworn it was listed as a paperback, but the copy I got is hardcover. It is definitely the book I remember reading in the 70s.
Following is an excerpt from the book:
“There was another long pause, with neither party apparently prepared to make a move. Suddenly, unexpectedly, the rat made a bolt for it under the west wall, intent on going back the way he had come and making his escape through the gate. I had been watching the rat rather than the cat but I saw Uncle Whiskers airborne in a flying leap. A split second later I thought there was a squeak and Uncle Whiskers had his teeth into the rat. The rat, however, was still very much alive. It even succeeded in dragging the cat round, for Uncle Whiskers had no forepaws to steady himself. It was a good sized rat and I had no hope that the cat could hold on with his sharp teeth. He managed to do so. As the rat weakened he shook it, terrier-fashion, and dragged it backwards. Since his accident Uncle Whiskers had learnt to walk backwards, shuffling on his powerful hind legs. I have never known any other cat which could perform in this way.
“He had the dying rat very firmly in his vice-like jaws. Victory was at hand. He stood up on his haunches, so that only the rat’s tail dragged on the ground, shaking it so violently that he momentarily lost his balance but not, luckily, his grip on his victim. Actually the rat was now as good as dead……
“There was, this time, no room to doubt that ‘All my own work!’ attitude of the cat. Certainly a four-legged cat could not possibly have put up a better performance, either in the patience demanded by the long stalk or in the almost incredible judgment in leaping in for the kill…… He was, in effect, a two-legged cat with powerful jaws, the heart of a lion and a great deal more ‘up top’ than most of his kind.”

The outside of the box looks like a stage magician’s. Maybe Tillie knows the trick to Puck’s escape!

“What’s New Pussycat?” I love the 1920’s lexicon that Tillie speaks. I think that we will now enjoy the back story of how Tillie and Pucky met.
I think Tillie is a special soul that watches over the cats that live in the Big Pink House. She will keep Pucky company until rescue arrives.

All I wanted was to go exploring for an hour or two
And do some searching, go through
The open door,
Funny how it seems when you search you don’t know what you’ll find
But then I really don’t mind,
That’s what it’s for
On an all-time high,
I’ll climb higher than before
Doing so much more
Than even Lupin has done
On an all-time high
I’ll see what the attic’s about
I have no doubt
I’ll do just fine
It was just too tempting in the box I just wanted to sleep,
Now I’m in far too deep
It’s very clear,
Somehow I know even in this moment it will all work out
Now that Tillie’s here!
On an all-time high,
I’ll climb higher than before
Doing so much more
Than even Lupin has done
On an all-time high
I’ll see what the attic’s about
I have no doubt
I’ll do just fine
From James Bond’s Octopussy, All Time High, sung by Rita Coolidge
