Employment agencies are fun, aren’t they? You’ve got the online ones that just flood your inbox with unsustainable temp jobs from several states away, or the in-person ones that sell all your info to ad agencies and then never return your calls and act dumb if you arrive in person.
Thankful I have never been in this position. I wouldn’t wish layoffs or any kind of “unintended unemployment” on my worst enemy. I can’t imagine a more stressful circumstance.
A million years ago when I was still in school, they taught us that computers and robots would do all the dirty jobs and that we would all have good jobs with twice as much leisure time. Instead, “they” laid off half the workforce and worked the survivors twice as hard…
Just a few months before our first daughter’s wedding, I was laid off. Crank up the credit line. The layoff did lead me to a enjoyable 14+ years as a tech consultant/ computer teaching job.
