    And this is the draw back of things now. But the same was said when written language was in use. The same complaint that people wouldn’t have to memorize those stories anymore.

    Used to be “Let your fingers do the walking….”. Now it’s “Let your phone do the thinking”.

    The middle school geography taught here required kids to color in maps as a memorization tool – ‘Color Italy red. Color France green. Color Germany yellow, and so on. When my son’s class had a geography test, they were given a map with the countries colored differently. My son got all the questions on his test right, but he said almost two-thirds of the class failed because they had memorized countries by color, not by shape and location.
