Christmas: “Go over there and sit on that strange man’s lap and have a chat with him.”
I never made my son do that. He was terrified of Santa (and all strangers) so I never forced him to sit on his lap. He never did and has gone through his childhood just fine with that decision. He’s almost 11 years old and I asked him recently if he felt left out of that part of our culture and he said, “No way! That’s just weird. I still think it’s creepy sitting on some guy’s lap like that.”
