I had surgery on my knee in Italy in the 70’s. Any parts removed in that hospital were in a jar on your nightstand when you woke up. The idea, I guess, was to prove they’d removed it, but the patients invariably showed their removed treasure to all their visitors.

I never saw mine. Don’t believe I would want to. Especially after the surgeon took 45 minutes to do a 15 minute job. The word he used was “Nasty”.

I kept my tonsils in a jar on the mantle for a couple of years. It was a thing for a while there.
