I learned to read when I was four, and not the easy stuff they give to kids these days. It was Grimm’s Fairy Tales in regular size print (in German because that is where we lived at the time) that I got as a Christmas gift. The next year, I got a Children’s Golden Book, also in regular size print. Some of the stories in it were in gothic print and I learned to read that too. Reading is wonderful because it can transport you to other places and times. We were poor and were lucky to get one gift for Christmas, and I still have those books. I am 76 now, not poor anymore, but still love to read. I feel sorry for those who don’t want to read. Those who can’t read should avail themselves of the programs that teach adults to read. They won’t be sorry!
Some people have had bad early experiences in reading and only do it when they have to. Otherwise they don’t read. It is called “a-literacy” more prevalent than illiteracy.

Fiction is good, like Trout becomes a Prissy Librarian!

I’ve had people tell me they hate to read. I can’t imagine that!
