ROFL… “car abuse… cash abuse..” our Pucky is putting 110% into reporting this heinous disregard for our boys’ crunchy satisfaction. Unless the People have something up their sleeves. Nah…
Maxie was still looking at the TV, and didn’t even turn to Megan when he asked; “Is there anything I can do to help you?” “Yes”, Megan replied, “but I want to make clear the risks. We’re going to be dealing with dogs here. Some bigger than others, almost all bigger than us- that even goes for you, Max. Also, some will doubtless be meaner than others. I need to find the ones I can reason with and convince them they don’t need to do this. No sense working with the humans; we can’t speak with them without giving everything away. Besides, THEY don’t feel the pain. I must find a way to appeal to the ones who DO.”
That’s something I do get nervous about when the bag gets very low. Typically by that time already have some purchased so don’t have to worry. But I do seem to remember one time when it did run out and had to feed kitty treats in stead of regular food until we could go get some food. The boys and Smokey didn’t mind. Don’t remember if it happened at their afternoon meal, which meant we could go out and get the food after they were fed or their evening meal, which meant the stores were closed and both the evening and morning meals had to be treats.
Well, it’s not April Fool’s Day, but it is Election Day, which is kind of a similar concept. I mean, there’s a sneaking suspicion that one is about to be fooled while taking something very seriously.
These are good humans. If they’re teasing the boys, it will turn out all right shortly.
Just remember that cats vote with their feet..No kibble and they will be gone … upstairs?. I can recall the trouble Old Mother Hubbard incurred when her cupboard was bare.
Good morning and happy Tuesday/Bluesday/Mewsday, orbsters and orbabies! But how can it be a good morning when there is no kibble? Puck is looking for an agency that can help, Elvis has fainted from the shock of it, and Lupin is threatening to poof in outrage as no cat has ever poofed before. Tune in tomorrow, same cat-time, same cat-channel!
I had to go out and about yesterday, and picked up two new toys for Yum Yum, an avatar of Buzzy Mouse, and a chirping feathered bird, thinking that she would enjoy them. I put them down on the floor, she came over, sniffed cautiously, and jumped about 3 feet in the air, turning away from them. She has since been giving them a wide detour and I think she is really afraid of them! Cats!!! Go figure!
Hope they aren’t going to be subjected to tiny cans of expensive kitty food with greens & quinoa — you know, the ones over $1 an ounce with pictures of VERY HAPPY KITTIES (false advertising!) on the label?
Let’s see we have a phone calling feline, a fainting feline and a furious feline. Methinks kitty food needs to be brought into that house toot sweet. The people may get more than they bargained for.
Harrumph. Lisa took Bandit in. She has worms, which means everyone has worms. Yes, bandit is female. Also has the upper respiratory thing going on. Gave us enough worming meds for the kittens but not for Trixie. Also gave Bandit a one time antibiotic injection.
Contrary to assurances on the phone now says we have to bring the others in for the shot instead of giving us oral suspensions to get them started ASAP. We would have brought in all 3 at once if we had not been…ahem…misled.
Editorial note: The regular vet we’ve been seeing at the clinic has apparently moved on. New male vet vibe is not sitting well. Wouldn’t give us a worming dose for Trixie. Insists we bring her in with the kittens on Thursday. Let’s try this again. Feral or semi-feral. Only been in the house a few days. Do YOU want to come over and try to stuff her into a carrier? And, he is a big thumbs down on BARF. All kinds of warnings and fretting over salmonella, other dread diseases, lack of nutrients. Get with the program dude. I’ve been feeding BARF for 15 years. Harrumph, I say.
So, we get to pack them all up for a return visit on Thursday afternoon. Trixie is going to be a chore we really wanted to put off for another week or so. She is just barely getting settled, but it is what it is. Leather work gloves and a towel cocoon to get her into the carrier as gently as possible and hope for the best.
I am suspicious that Trixie may have been an abused pet. She has been grudgingly tolerant of rubbies, skritchies and brushing. You do, I hope, understand the difference between rubbies and skritchies. Harrumph. Anyway, I was skritching around the ears and jaw and moved towards the chest/throat area. She hissed and gave me a bite on the finger before I could withdraw. Small puncture, not bad, just enough to let me know.
But her reaction was disturbing. As I pulled my hand back she automatically did that head back and down thing you see from animals that are accustomed to getting smacked in the head. A touch of fear in the eyes, posture like they can’t escape and are going to have to take the hit. I don’t know how else to describe it but I know it when I see it. A major league flinch reaction.
Maybe I’m wrong. I hope I’m wrong. But we will proceed as if I am correct. Makes my blood boil when I think about it so I try not to. Do NOT abuse children or animals. Adults are mostly accountable for the situations they find themselves in but kids and critters have no defense, no choice, no place to run.
This has doubled down on our resolve to give this puss a good loving human home. It will take more time and much more careful treatment until we figure out her triggers and problems. But heck, we have plenty of time and room and patience.
Side note. I did a bit of inappropriate touching yesterday. Kittens are settled enough and I’m tired of “it” as a pronoun. Tortie is a female. Ginger is a male. Figures. The little bugger has an attitude that won’t stop. And no, we are resisting naming those two. A loving parent is already in the wings going SQUEEEEEEEE every time Lisa posts more pictures. They will go as a pair to ease their transition away from mom. A room has already been prepared and the 2 current puss residents have been warned to expect new siblings. Are they paying attention? Very doubtful.
More will be revealed on Friday after the Thursday afternoon vet visit. I am working from home this week so I can be here to help capture Trixie for the crate. Hoo boy, that should be…..interesting.
I love Puck wanting to report this. Elvis has fainted from shock, poor things they will waste away to nothing in two seconds flat. (I have been assured by my felines that this does actually happen). Lupin’s face is priceless.
