Be happy with what you have, Rat; bigger and better ain’t all it’s cracked up to be.

It’s having ‘nice’ things that makes one happy, Rat. At least that’s what Diotima said in Plato’s Symposium. But Pig is the Tarot. The Tarot is about experiences. Each card is an experience, situation, or feeling that shapes our minds. For better or worse.

We’ve known that things don’t lead to happiness for thousands and thousands of years, but somehow, we keep thinking that they will.

Aren’t millennials supposed to be about buying bigger and better experiences?

I’m in “getting rid of” mode. Unless I use it, wear it or eat it I’m getting rid of it. No more dust gathering trinkets, stacks of DVDs, old clothes I’ll never wear, old stuff I’ll never use. If I can sell it on eBay for enough money to make it worth the effort then I will. Otherwise I’m giving it all to charity. The lone exception being those items gifted to me by my children.

Its quite liberating, breaking the bonds of being owned by my stuff.

It is all about the experiences! Then no matter how much or how little I’ve had, I have happy memories. It’s also about experiences yet to live.

Ever read Your Money or Your Life? One of the exercises is to go through what you spend your money on, and think about which of them make you happy.

    Now, happiness is an experience,

and an experience is a thing,

    and you can buy things,

so you CAN buy happiness. QED

Happiness does not reside in Things. Not so sure about Experiences, either. And definitely not in Balloon-powered Flying Pigs!
