When I was in the military I got a full power of attorney for my wife. If you are really interested, contact your local geek. There is a way to set up your router to have both a secure network for you and a guest network for others.

Some service providers already do this which is why you’ll see an unprotected network. How do you think they get all these “hot spots?” Did you think they paid for them? No, you sacrifice a small bit of your bandwidth (only if someone is on and using it) so someone who has the same service walking by on the street can connect.
