Our middle daughter wanted a horse (it must be a stage for some girls) and we told her to “save her allowance”. And she did. She bought her own horse, but it cost us a fortune in fencing, a small barn, food, tack. . .

Did you ever try to get a pony down chimney?

This year, get her a couple cans of dogfood and some factory-fresh glue and a note saying ‘This is as close to a pony as you’re ever going to get’.

Anyone who thinks you can get a pony down a chimney certainly has never tried to get one into a horse trailer.

I told my kids that Santa does not deal with live animals as they are too hard to feed and care for at the North Pole.
