If you can’t do it on your old PC, you can’t do it on anything else!

My problem is that I write best in longhand. Unfortunately, only my sister can read it!

Just hope you don’t experience “Doesn’t-work-gotta-take-it-back” day.

Almost a full two years ago, I bought a new laptop. I was talked into buying the extended warranty. I paid for a two year extension. One month before the warranty expiration it developed a hardware problem. I got a full refund of store credit and upgraded to a newer laptop. So the extended warranty saved me over $1400. So, I hope Adam bought an good warranty.

I was having problems with my PC and called tech support. I told them that dealing with this was a real headache. They told me to take a tablet and call them in the morning.

For about 3 years my husband has been pushing me to get a new laptop. I was using my oldest one as a kitchen computer. I bought it in 2005. My newer one I bought in 2009 as I needed a smaller one to use (before GPS devices were ubiquitous) with a combination map and GPS program. I used that one for work as it was lighter and when we traveled (in our tiny RV) I brought both – one to use at night as it had all things such as this in it and the other to use for the routes – even with the plethora of same available, this one had all our regular routes in it. Both were Win XP. I have a lot of unreplaceable software which won’t run in systems after WinXP.

Well, it finally got to the point about 3 months ago that I was willing to upgrade, despite hating Win 7, let alone Win 10. Husband has been promising that he can put a virtual XP machine in it as he did in my Win 7 desktop. We knew which brands we wanted and which we would never buy. I was about to buy one at a chain computer store and they wanted to sell us the extended warranty. We were only interested in the mfgr warranty and the store said on their site and on a sign in the store that they were licensed to make warranty repairs for the mfgr. (among others). Suddenly the story changed and we were told that they could not handle warranty repairs nor can any other store and we would be required by the mfgr to mail the computer to mfgr for repair. I not only did not buy the computer, but we wrote a complaint letter to county consumer affairs.

So, I ended up buying about a month ago a computer for much more than I wanted to spend (almost $500 instead of under $300) and features that I did not want (and are driving me crazy – windows fly left or right or the page changes zoom up or down). We let it sit until after Thanksgiving in case there is a better sale and started setting it up Friday night. I HATE IT. Not a computer novice, started programing main frames in HS in 1970, but Win 10 is terrible!

There – I moved the mouse and now it is at 120% zoom!!

Oh, and Costco includes warranty of 2 years total at no extra charge. If the other store had thought to just charge an extra $50 as the computer price said “and we include a year of service on the computer” then they would have had their $50, we would have bought the computer for the price that included same and we would not be at the point of not wanting to ever go back to the store for anything computer.

Just a followup – having been using the darn thing over a week now – I hate it. I amazed that anyone buys a new computer without absolutely having too. Husband has spent the last week shutting off things in it to make it work right!! Even with that the page jumps up and down – in the middle of this post the page jumped to the bottom of the page. We figured out how to lock the zoom at 80% (as it seems the best for me). He has changed the touchpad to shut off all the fancy features – but either it jumps around or I feel like I am pulling a car to get it to move! Windows keep popping up – even though same is shut off. For some reason it would not accept the signin for one of my groups – it was the correct sign in as it worked on old laptop, my desktop and husband’s desktop – I had to sign in on my old laptop and “change” the password to the password I had to get that to work. I am now feeding it software and it takes forever. We bought it as husband said that my old laptop was too slow and it got to the point (especially with another comics site) that I was noticing a problem – this one seems just as bad.

I cannot understand how anyone – such as Adam – actually likes getting a new computer.
