Kings, Emperors and Czars throw pesky reporters in dungeons for years before executing them.
Enlightenment: United States becomes first nation to enshrine freedom of the press in its core statement of rights and freedoms, the Bill of Rights. Other western nation and ultimately many other nations adopt similar practices. Tyrannical regimes in the Soviet Union, Communist China, Cuba, Saudi Arabia, North Korea and others continue to resist.
Eventually even the Soviet Union under Mikhail Gorbachev institutes perestroika and glasnost (liberalized press freedoms), the Soviet Union falls, and is replaced by the Russian federation with Boris Yeltsin, free competitive press and fair and open elections.
A former KGB top official who resents the breakup of the Soviet Union, Vladimir Putin, takes over Russia and returns to murdering journalists and political rivals.
Russia installs a puppet fake “president” in the United States who wages war on the media, calls it “fake news” and the “enemy of the people” and supports tyrants who murder journalists.
If Acosta wants to put on his one-man-act again ranting/raving and ignoring the rules of a press conference I hope he gets removed permanently, though a boulder may be a bit much. Spoiled children need to have a time out!
When a publicity hound like Bonespurs, from his first appearance on the public stage as a young, egocentric, twit, shoots his mouth off with so much vile, contemptible (think “bus interview”), finally gets full coverage for his hate speech, “Throw ’em out”, “Lock her up”, and orders his followers at rallies to take the opposition out and beat them, that the press accurately reports his QUOTES, and gets accursed of hate, only to be called the liars and “fakes”, it is time to silence him for the sake of the nation.
Don’t worry about quoting him, do the world a favor, and don’t give him a single word of coverage in ANY media, three weeks should be enough to force him to pull his ego out of his Preparation H tube, and brain, and resign.
DDWiz: Thanks for the interesting and energetic discussion. I appreciated the many facts and support for those facts.
For some fun—yeah, we researchers are wonky this way-I did a short analysis of the thread and these are my (very rough) findings:
Original Post: 136 likesDirect positive responses to post: argythree (7), coomback (5), redkaycei (8), educated man (2), lindz, coop. Total likes: 159Direct negative responses to post: j gray (15), mso (0).
Total votes: 159 +16 = 175. Positive votes for the original post: 90.8%; negative votes for the original post: 9.2%.
mwaurelius (14) and lenavid (13) posted comments that did not address the original post, but rather, addressed personal opinions about DDWiz’personality/tone and gave their opinions/generalizations of “the left’s” intellect in general.
Other topics generated during discussion: the definition/beliefs of libertarians; trump’s relationship to Russian and Chinese leaders; attitudes towards trump; trump’s behavior; trump’s truthiness; tyranny of the majority/tyranny of the minority; the Electoral College, its origins, and its place in the system now; John Galt/Ayn Rand; HRC; the punctuation of the 2nd Amendment.
mwaurelius: 1. Mark 12/3/2018 on your calendar or in your journal, and enter this sentence from one of your posts:
“I, on the other hand, am from the generation which will be required to clean up the mess from the generation which never grew up.”
Someday, somebody from a younger generation will say those words to you. One generation has been saying them to the preceding generation since there WAS a first and second generation. Any civilization with writing—and that includes hieroglyphs—will provide primary sources of one generation’s discontent with another generation’s handling of the civilization’s world order.
2. Please: show me Eden on a map.
3. The comma in the second amendment sets off an introductory limiting clause. That is, the fist clause limits, or sets up a condition for, the second clause. The citizenry’s “right to bear arms” was based on the condition that the fledgling United States had NO standing military and each state was expected to have its own protective “well—regulated militia.” Citizens who now have arms are not well-regulated militia, and we now have both federal and state “militias”—better known as the army, the navy, the marines, the coast guard, and the air force (federal) and the national guard (state).

Evolution of the press conference:
Cave men drop boulders on pesky reporters.

@magicwalnut Do you understand the difference between a Constitutional Republic and a pure Democracy? In a pure Democracy, no rights are guaranteed.
