I just don’t get this story line. What does this mean that all the drug deals are right under the “Drug Free Zone” sign.

Just one of Polar’s dealers in this absurd premise he would not only deal the worst place possible, a school, but…..right in front of the “drug free school zone sign”, lol.

Liz looks as if she’d just LOVE it if he tried to make a break for it. A little surprised she’s wearing an ear-ring on a bust though. Those things aren’t safe (for the wearer) in a brawl.

there is another cop inside the school yard. Evidently there is more than one dealer on campus … or perhaps one dealer and some assistants who “just happen to know someone, and can hook you up”

I understand the idea of stereotyping crooks as thugs (after all, this is a comic strip), however I cannot imagine a junior high student approaching or wanting to be seen with an old guy who looks like that. This guy would definitely stand out on a playground full of tweens. I would have supposed that the playground pushers would be more like the hippies we have seen earlier. Pushers need that “Jr. High kids think I’m cool” factor to entice kids to think drugs are cool. I think this guy looks scary and in no way enticing to a Jr. High student.

Back to arresting drug dealers on school grounds. It’s like this storyline is stuck in a perpetual loop.

Aha! “New Broom” is what is sometimes called a “police sweep,” of the area/neighborhood around Palmer Junior High School. And this grizzled mug in the bowler is just one of the street small-time pushers in The Polar Vortex outfit. It’s good to see Lizz and the Chicago/Tracyville uniformed officer (note the distinctive checkered decor of his cap) making the nab….

The broom symbol has been used in the past. The “Iron Broom” was a hate group in Germany between World War One and Two.
