You can’t control the competition. You can only control yourself. Pick the song that best shows off your particular talents. Let the chips fall where they may. By the way, that applies to a lot more things than just auditions.

My rule of thumb is that if I perform realistically, the director wants it over the top; if I perform over the top, the director wants it realistic.

Am reminded of when my wife and I started collecting from a line of pewter statuary about 10 months into our marriage, I wanted something realistic and she wanted something cute. We bought a realistic chipmunk.
