I get that term, festive angst. The tension of what to get plus the joy of the giving plus the hope that it will be appreciated.
The third year of our marriage, money was tight, and my wife and I were worried whether we could afford any Christmas gifts. I think at that time we had about $30 bucks in the kitty. Each of us took $10 and the game was to see which of us could find the greater number of gifts for that price. Not surprisingly we found ourselves in the ‘kitchen goods’ section of a now-defunct department store. Lots of little gadgets in those places in the 1960’s. Not like that much anymore.
Naturally she won, but our family and friends got some very surprising small but gaily wrapped kitchen tools and accessories. Lots of laughs and jokes. Probably one of the most fun Christmas shopping trips we have had in 56 years of marriage.
Not for nothing but the way she’s wrapping that box, there isn’t enough paper to cover the other ends. She’s going to lose her mind when she realizes it.

The best gift I am going to give myself this Christmas is to spend time with friends and family.
Our family has agreed to give each other token or funny gifts. The big $$$ is going to several charities. Playing Santa Clause is fun.
Almost stress-free holiday season.
