Another interesting topic, drawn from real-life concerns of actual people — great comic strip.
As for energy drinks themelves - there has been a lot of misinformed nonsense written about them. The one’s, I occasionally use, contain less caffeine than a cola. They have vitamins and e.g. taurine (taurine … taurus … bull - get it?). Used in moderation, they can make you more alert, without side-effects, such as coffee jitters. I do agree they they are not suitable for children.
I agree with her. There’s enough caffeine in a single can to hurt a child. It depends on the weight, of course, but too much caffeine is bad for the heart and the arteries.
When I tried energy drinks about 10 years ago, they obviously had no active ingredients whatever, not even sugar or caffeine, though they did have distinctly unpleasant flavorings. I suspect the entire industry is based on people’s readiness to psych themselves into believing any “regimen” that’s unpleasant must be beneficial.
After I got my teaching credential, sometimes I would sub. Nothing like watching several middle schoolers coming into class sucking on Red Bulls. After about 20 minutes, it usually resulted in a trip to the office for them. :-D
Because I had to give up coffee, I was looking for something to eliminate a middle/late afternoon “sag” that would sometimes make me take a nap, which I hate. I found “Triple-Boost Caffeine-Free Energy” from “Irwin Naturals”, which works very well.

If he has put it on the list he is already using it outside of the house. Probably akready brings it home in his backpack.
