What’s that saying about it’s better to say nothing and be thought a fool than to speak and show that you are one, or something…

Tis better to keep silent and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Or, something like that. :D

Yep. That was me at school so long ago. A pretty smile like that made my brain go blue-screen-of-death and scrambled all logical thought…… You too?

Too biographical for my tastes. Who allowed Lynn to study my behavior around girls in High School? What an invasion of my privacy!!

DUDE! I have so been there. You might as well just ask her if she likes Dungeons and Dragons and call it a day.

He’s blown it again.

This is STILL me today. 51 years old and I still can’t talk to my Lori without feeling like a 12 year-old talking to the prettiest girl in class. It NEVER really changes.

Well, on a positive note, she said “Hi”, instead of “oh, it’s you, the nerd”.

Hlgftz. That’s what I figured he would say.

Had the same problem as ‘Gordon’ in high school—couldn’t talk to member of the opposite sex(if they were the ‘same’ age) so went out on two dates in school, both I was invited by the girl—just basrely managed to get ’yes out of my mouth ! ! !!

I guess it’s true of all HS boys, according to my memories and the comments here. Did this ever happen to HS girls?

It never occurs to teen girls that teen boys are as unsure of themselves as the girls are. I raised 2 boys and 1 girl, and each of them came to me during their teen years with questions, worries, and broken hearts. I also taught 7th grade for 18 years and I can unequivocally say that every teen has these doubts, no matter how well-adjusted they seem. With all those hormones going crazy at puberty, it’s pretty certain that each of us made a fool of ourselves a few times when we were teens.

She looks about 20 !??

Yep, but 5 years later we were married.

Fortunately, I outgrew that phase.

Poor Gordon. He’s run out of consonants.

It still does and I’m 76

My lesson from High School: It can take a man 3 years to get the courage to ask a girl for a date.

And her 1/10 sec. to say “No”.

I never got that close to a girl I had a crush on or even any interest, but it was a terrible barrier to closer relations.

Seems Allyson would not say “Hi” to Gordon unless he was destined to get elected the President of Canada.

I had that happen to me in high school. Veronica still went out with me. Betty did too.
