I’ve been there. When their real friend shows up, suddenly you aren’t there anymore, so you might as well go home.

The second fiddle-stomach aches? I know them too well, but only because I stood too close to the first fiddler during the concert and got his fiddlestick in the belly

At least you got to go visit for a little while Charlie. I was so far down the list of back up friends that I would go a month or more between seeing anyone my age outside of school hours. During the summer holidays I might as well have been the only kid my age in a hundred mile radius.

In a later strip, CB asked Lucy if she’d like to play second base. She replied, “Not on your life! I’ve got too much pride!” He then asked her, “Well, what in the world is wrong with second base?” She responded with, “Second base? Oh, pardon me. I thought you said second fiddle.”

Agreed, Charlie Brown that was not very nice!

CB, do remember this, so you can use it on them, sometime in future. I’ve nothing specific to mind as I say this, just that this may well occur…

This was about the time in the strips history when I began to hate Violet and “Original” Patty.
