There are many similar stars, but, like Charlie Brown said, there’s only one that’s called “the sun”. Does that mean that “sun” is a proper name and should be capitalized? Most people, myself included, don’t capitalize it, but I seem to remember being told in elementary school that the words “Sun”, “Moon”, and “Earth” should all be capitalized, because there’s only one of each.
I remember as a kid reading this book on oddities, that recounted about an Indian man who spent his adult life staring at the sun, and yes, his retinas burned out not long after he started. I wondered what his thoughts might be as he meditated, year after year…
