Funny how Americans call these buildings “ice” arenas. Up here (Canada) arenas usually house ice rinks and indoor ice rinks can only be found in arenas. It’s a cultural thing I guess.
When I lived on South Lake near Ann Arbor, we had a rule that the kids could go on the ice when Leo (across the lake) had ridden his snowmobile on it. We could take our snowmobile when Leo took his 4×4 pickup across the lake.
Also, in an ice arena you don’t have to worry about tripping over someone’s tip-up. He says, puzzling any of his readers who live south of the Ohio and Indiana state lines. Any of them who haven’t already taken a break while we finish gushing over all the Stormy Kromer product placement.
Hey. I spent a good part of my youth wanting to live somewhere besides Michigan, because that’s the kind of thing restless youthful people do. I never did leave, not long enough to have my mail delivered to me outside of the state, and at a certain point I just went ahead and slapped the NATIVE sticker on my car. I’m owning it. Or maybe just a sucker for an attitudinal, well-designed sticker.
There’s nothing better than a lake or pond on a cold day for skating. The ice is so much colder, louder, faster and smoother than what you’d find in a rink!

Shouldn’t be hard to keep it frozen.

It got up to 52 yesterday in some parts of Michigan. I think I side with her mom on this one.

In central VA it appears most just refer to it as an ice skating rink. They are found in arenas but also in outdoor venues when the season allows.

A drunk decided to go ice fishing. He went out to the middle of the ice and started to cut a hole.
Suddenly he hears a great voice from above: “There are NO fish under this ice!”
Drunk looks around and asks in a trembling voice, “Is that the voice of GOD?”
Voice replies, “No, it’s the voice of the Zamboni driver. You’re in an ice rink!”

Outside ice? It hit 60 today. I’m not sure they’re even able to keep the temporary manmade outdoor rink frozen.
