The snow must be really dry. And yes time for them is not time for us. We see mere glimpses of them while 24 hours till the next glimpse. Nicely drawn as usual. Well balanced.
Good morning™, unsuspecting complacent detectives !
Dick’s not gonna want to do what’s coming up but will anyway. Sam gives the impression that the pay is the same whether the action is high or just getting paid to visit old friends.
Poor Tulza, he is standing out in the freezing cold alongside a highway with no means on the horizon of getting to Tracyville
|
Though in MY “it happened off-panel Tim, just accept it” scenario it went something like this….
Tulza’s bus ride ended at the sign because he only wanted to go HALF way. He then calls for an Uber to drive him HALF way to Tracyville, then gets a cab to take him the rest of the way to the outskirts of Tracyville.
Once there, he walks HALF way into town before considering stealing a kid’s bicycle, and instead opts for a unicycle (think about it).
|
he stops at a diner to get something to eat and orders a SINGLE piece of toast, cutting it (you guessed it) in HALF and spreading butter on one side and jelly on the other…combining them into a sammich and eats only HALF of it (you see where im going with this dontcha?)
he pays HALF the bill and offers to wash HALF of the dishes to pay off the balance.
After leaving the diner, he hops (because he only wants to use half of his leg power obviously) by a store that is having a 50% off sale.. and he just cant resist.
He goes in and buys HALF the inventory then leaves and finds himself in front of a HALFWAY HOUSE where he decides (naturally) to get a room (half price, duh!) and wait almost patiently (not quite TOTALLY, see?) for his HALF of this story to begin
Much that we are seeing in this story, we have seen before.
When the movie studios were filming The Dick Tracy Story back in 1990, Haf and Haf was jealous that he was not in the movie as one of Tracy’s greatest villains. It would be unlikely that he wouldn’t also be jealous if he does not appear in this stage musical.
Someone mentioned the prosthetic chins and noses hanging in the dressing room yesterday. The actor starring as Dick Tracy in the film had problems with that also.
When Vitamin Flintheart was starring in the play, “Sleuth,” Tracy rushed onstage on opening night when he realized that Putty Puss had killed and replaced Vitamin’s co-star. Many members of the audience thought it was part of the show. Can we expect Tracy to become involved in this J. Straightedge Trustworty production? With Vitamin playing himself, will the audience think Tracy is there as a guest star?
Haf and Haf, like Putty Puss, is now a raving maniac with no subtlety other than being a deranged killer bent on revenge against Tracy and Zelda. Unless this arc gets a little more depth than just being derivative of previous strips, I don’t normally like either raving maniacs (leave them to Batman) or revenge plots (easier than thinking up a proper mystery or cop story).
Haf and Haf was much more interesting as a guy that was ugly as sin but charming with women. By making him a deranged killing machine with 3 personalities destroys the brilliant Gouldian contridictions originally written into the character. What’s the difference between a guy who talks to himself constantly and a guy who sings to himself constantly. One looks like his face is melting and the other’s face actually is melting.
Lots of talking this week with no action. Perhaps I was spoiled by all of the action (murders, gas attacks, pathos, explosions, “Let’s roll”) in the Minit Mystery.
I’m with you, Tracy. “J. Straightedge Trustworthy—The Musical” just does not tug at me; doesn’t even float my boat.
But I might see it once just in honor of an old friend, Vitamin Flintheart! Forget about that washed-up, alcoholic cynic, Magnus. Vitamin is the real deal!

Good morning™, reluctant investigators!
Tracy and Sam are (still) on their way to warn the potential victim. (“The spirits have done it all in one night.”)
