For the most part, barbecue ribs, hamburgers, buffalo chicken wings, Tex-Mex, and apple pie are claims that America can make on the food market. None of them are truly dignified, but we all know they taste great!

Diet Coke tastes better from a fountain (except the first one in the morning - yech) because they use different sweeteners. NutraSweet has a nasty tendency to break down into things like methanol when heated. And there are lots of good examples of American haute cuisine - see Too Many Cooks for a discussion. Actually I think Scott has missed the boat just a touch (though this is hilarious) - McDonald’s doesn’t promise good taste, it promises consistency. That’s a real issue in a big country. When they started, traveling families had no idea what they might have to eat. Now they know. Anywhere in the world, McDonald’s tastes amazingly similar!
