Diet Coke tastes better from a fountain (except the first one in the morning - yech) because they use different sweeteners. NutraSweet has a nasty tendency to break down into things like methanol when heated.

Actually I think Scott has missed the boat just a touch (though this is hilarious) - McDonald’s doesn’t promise good taste, it promises consistency. That’s a real issue in a big country. When they started, traveling families had no idea what they might have to eat. Now they know. Anywhere in the world, McDonald’s tastes amazingly similar!
