There’s a turgid soap opera of a movie from the ‘50s in which a well-to-do middle-aged widow falls in love with a young, handsome man who owns his own tree nursery. Because it’s the ‘50s, she might as well have been shacking up with a Commie. Her college-age children have dramatic melt-downs about what everyone will think, we’ll be the laughingstock, how could you, etc. Until she agrees not to see him anymore. Then they say, OK, great; here’s a TV for Christmas to keep you company over the holidays; we’re busy. And off they go. Point being, in the end, nobody cares all that much what you do unless you let them. So, just do YOU; they’ll go away.
