Michael does not want to hang around Lawrence’s place because his sister is home. Lawrence has two step-sisters, but it’s easy to figure out which one he would not want to hang around with. My guess is Molly, the step-sister who caught peeping tom Michael Patterson looking in her window a few years ago.

On the flip side, there are teens in our country (and the world) choosing to make a positive difference in the lives of others. The most recent I read about is a young man who saved from his odd jobs to buy a motorized wheelchair for a classmate.

Nothing to do, Michael? Remember the strip where Michael got a hard hat for Christmas? Use that. Then Brian could be an Indian, Gordon a sailor, and Lawrence have a leather biker outfit. They could call themselves Canada’s hottest new band, the Community Folk, the Town’s Inhabitants, eh something like that.

We always found something constructive to do – if we didn’t, our father would have us picking rocks out of the pasture so the cows wouldn’t trip on them (at least that’s what he told us the reason was)…

That’s the awkward age when playing imagination games is considered lame, and before you are able to get a paying job… I remember seeing that in my kids when they were past grade seven till about grade ten and then they were able to get part time jobs and this having “nothing to do” ended… I had a list of chores that they could check off… As soon as they started a chore, it’s amazing how quickly an idea would pop into their head and they would have to write it down, still I would say that they can work it out in their mind until the job was done.

My kids were really good at writing essays and short stories… It must be all those chores they did…
