Just like Puck, the Man is prone to hat head hair.

The looks of concern on the boys’ faces, even Elvis looks worried!

“Let’s Save A Cat!” should be a song.

Tommy’s in the house! His woman is smiling. Looks as if they got the itty bitty kitty inside before it was too late.

Tommy and his Mom have the same smiling mouth! (Not to mention the snow goggles) Another great outcome from Georgia. I love this cartoon. It makes my day, every day.

So tiny.

Tommy and his Woman are the best! They are always willing to help any kitties!

How’d they know she’s a “she” already? By the eyelashes? :)

Love Tommy’s coordinated outfit, leash/harness, hat, gloves… ;) His Woman’s, too! I wonder if he actually walked in the Void?

As Scaeva says, we do not know ancient pronunciations. It is an issue which leads to unseemly brawls in bars where historical linguists gather.

But there are some useful clues.

Contemporary accounts. In ancient times, China, India, and Rome all had geeky types who wrote about languages.

Poetry. Pope, for example, rhymes “join” with “line”, and “joined” with “find”. This is a pretty good clue to his pronunciation of “join”, and it is likely that his pronunciation was shared. (Some Americans still use the “jine” pronunciation. In Irish and Australian demotic, “find’ frequently sound more like foind”.)

The rhythmic structure of Latin poetry helps us to determine the length of the vowel sounds.

Speech represented in literature. For example, Dicken’s representation of Sam Weller’s pronunciation.

Puns in ancient literature.

Comparisons between languages which are descended from the earlier language.

Loan words in other languages. In Latin, the combinations “ch”, “th”, and “ph” occur in words taken from Greek. This is a representation of the aspirated consonants.

Korean, Vietnamese, and Japanese pronunciations of Chinese characters often are clues to ancient pronunciations of those characters. Comparison between pronunciations in Mandarin, Cantonese, Shanghainese, etc. also help.

And on the topic of ancient pronunciations of characters.

In Japanese:

A monk asked Joshu, “Does a dog have Buddha Nature?”Joshu replied “Mu”. (無 – negative)

In modern Mandarin:

A monk asked Zhàozhōu Cōngshěn, “Does a dog have Buddha Nature?”Zhàozhōu replied “Wú”. (無)

But in Zhàozhōu’s time 無 (simplified: 无) seems to have been pronounced more as “mew”.

From this I deduce that when a dog attains enlightenment, it becomes a cat.

This will not be a surprise to anyone here.

All the boys look concerned. Even Lupin has removed his hat.

The world needs an ‘arctic explorer Tommy’ action figure!

It appears Tommy’s Woman has him on a harness. She’s not taking any chances!

Tommy is huge. And adorable.

Tommy is mellow beyond belief. Not only a sweater but ski goggles.

Goggles, hat, mittens, leash…Tommy is a cat of infinite patience.

I love the way that the People are ignoring all the meowing (“man”) around them as they discuss what to do. That’s just what cat owners go through.

The man will lift you up,

love Lupin holding his hat in his hand. reminds me of a cowboy removing his hat & saying, Ma’am, when in a lady’s presence. also, The Woman’s red hair is looking exceptionally beautiful today. now The Man’s hair, on the other hand, reminds me of mine when in grade school. I used to wear a Mike Nesmith type of hat and when I pulled it off, well, let’s just say mine looked worse than The Man’s. my cousin Vince would get so upset with me about it.

A happy strip to brighten this gloomy, rainy Monday (cue the Carpenters…) The baby is saved!!!

Happy Funday, orbsters and orbabies! Three cheers for the Man, the Woman, Tommy and Tommy’s Woman, along with our three good boys, all pulling together to save the baby kitten.

Tommy came with her, I see.

Even in their concern for the lost kitten, our Boys are still covering the story for CN.

Hooray for Cat Saving! Tommy & his Woman to the rescue. Love this entire strip, but this arc has it all. Thanks Georgia for all the wonderful work you do.

Now, bear in mind: there are quite a few of us fans from the other site, and quite a few who have gone through and read the original strips. And yet, all of us are excited about this arc, when we know very well what is coming.

It is a tribute to Georgia’s talent.

I’ve enjoyed this strip many times today but I just noticed that it looks like the little kitty is wiping/rubbing his/her eye. So cute!

Love the “I’ll call Tommy’s owner.” It’s like my sister – she knows people by their dogs’ names.

I finally get it. Originally, I had thought it was the trope of calling someone at their house and that person knocking at your front door before you could even hang up. But Tommy’s person was on her cell phone, and already out for a walk with Tommy.
