Netflix sucks and there is nothing else worth watching on the tube - not even on TCM. The problem with the pre-game show these days is it has absolutely nothing to do with football.
But I want to see the commercials and the tailgating food! Which I can do thanks to TiVo. Record the pre-game, game, and post-game, and catch up on the Daily Show while I read the Sunday paper, then skip over everything not commercial or foodie.
There’s good info to be had. I heard that some of the players went out to eat and one of them picked up the tab. Without the two-week pregame I might never have known this.
Back in my slightly less mature days, I threw an anti-Super Bowl party for all the young football widows. To make their anti football night complete, I, as the only male, did all the cooking and setting up. With the TV unplugged, we drank, ate, drank, danced and drank the night away. In it’s five year life, I only had to bail out three girls for DUI. Tried to let them share my bed. That’s what a responsible host does.
To be played today, I believe, yes…in my area, in fact (Dallas-Fort Worth).
sayhowURfeelingB4URgone said: “…Sports completely over rated, and over paid….” It says a great deal about our values as a society that we pay such high salaries to athletes, and lavish hundreds of millions to build palaces in which to worship their games. A visiting space alien would conclude that our One True God is our own entertainment.
SCAATY_423: AMEN and AMEN!!
Fish Stix: I started watching violent bleeep for free back in 1939, as my first step dad would bring winos home and have them beat each other to a bloody mass for a bottle. Great stuff,
Leewreader: sure wish I had thought of that long ago. :)
I thought you were supposed to be offered the choice of EITHER the Peek-a-Boo Scan OR the Full-Body Groping. This guy seems to be getting both. (Hmm, I wonder why the guy looking at the scanner is laughing…)
I think the guy that’s supposed to be doing the groping is just saying, “Grope grope grope” he’s not really doing it. His hands are an inch away from the guy. That’s compassion.
Do they still play football during the Super Bowl?
All I see are pre-game & post-game shows, with a rock concert (disguised as a halftime show), interrupted by tons of commercials (half of them for shows on the network airing the “game”).
My favorite part of Super Bowl week is that it means baseball season is almost here! Play ball!
When I read stuff like the above, I am again so glad that I use my TVs for Netflix and the Xbox. Six years now and not only don’t miss television, but feel freed from its clutches.
If you have never played it you will never understand the rush and the power and the speed. You become a junkie to the adrenaline and you keep wanting to play, long passed your prime, whether from HS or thru the pros. That’s the dirty little secret of Farve and others who just don’t know when to quit. They want the rush and can’t find it anywhere else. Again like War. Ask John Hersey.
So how many of the criers are from Pitt. Or GB. None I gather, since they’re busy getting their parties together.
Football is the Machine Age sport that Carlin called it, but also the ultimate TEAM endeavor making it hard for individualistic and “artistic” to completely grasp. Really good football is like a well=devised war with a lot less casualties. Both these teams have played it very well at most of the positions and actually deserve to be there (not always the case in past years.) It’s actually been a game to match the hype recently. And it’s only couple weeks to Daytona. Wiley can have another field day with that one if he likes.
To each his own, Night-Gaunt49 Football and, to some degree, baseball are the only network shows I’ll watch these days - which says a lot about network television.
As for Netflix I’ll also pass. I’ll turn to my personal extensive classic TV and movie inventory before I turn to that.
It does seem as though Football will evolve into the modern day version of Rollerball though.
Given that it doesn’t start until midnight in the UK, and that it takes much less time in highlights form (all those committee meetings are eliminated), it will much easier to watch tomorrow morning!
I like the book idea. I have half of my current novel to read, but it’s a James Patterson so it probably won’t get me through the game. There is always the NYT crossword,. “No Dear, I don’t read the articles, only buy it for the crosswords and theater review”.
Away for a quick nine..
All that and back in time…
For all the pageantry and fizz…
All the sports and show-biz…
All the stops and starts…
All the spit, all the farts…
Broken bones will be a’waitin’…
Sports nuts will be stating…
“Best of the best that’s for certain”…
Since the year’s of the Steel Curtain…
And within all the fuss…
There is for the rest of us…
While we think the advertisers to blame…
That’s it’s still just a game…
SCAATY_423 – Thanx and I couldn’t agree more. As usual, money well spent – much like the popularity contests we call elections. Funny nobody worries about money going down the drain for sports or elections, but we all worry ourselves sick that a penny might get spent on food for some poor kid or healthcare for some elderly person. That’s pork – socialist pork at that.
Hi all!
First off, Netflix is GREAT for filtering out what you do and don’t want to buy for your library.
Second, my daughter has a blast teasing the jocks about playing “handegg”, since it’s not a ball, it’s an egg, and just when does anyone’s foot actually CONTACT the Egg?
And 400 lucky people got to brave the elements for days just to watch the game on a TV screen in Cowboy Stadium. Plus they were paid $270 for that privilege. Woohoo! THAT’S a Superbowl.
