Schmendrick the Magician from the fantasy novel The Last Unicorn by Peter S. Beagle – sorry, still rather too esoteric for this old fart, I’m afraid. I had to Google it and decided it never would have dawned on me – just too far off the edge for me. But having learned the reference, kudos for the ’toon!

And I thought he was calling him a schmendrick, not THE Schmendrick!

Cartoons shouldn’t need entrance exams.

Read the book in early 70s, but remember the name. Do remember the guy with armor made of washers and bottle caps.

I looked it up, had the aha moment and moved on.

Gentlemen, not only do you entertain us but you also educate us on a diverse range of fiction.

There is also a beautifully done Last Unicorn movie.

Never heard of Schmendrick, but have heard of Schmuck.

Keep this up and I’m going to have to watch the movie again. And read the book if I can find my copy!

Still don’t get it. I mean, I now recognize Schmendrick from The Last Unicorn, but my point is he’s way better-looking that Herbie. I just don’t see the resemblance.
