Our current cat doesn’t like canned cats food, per se. He only like the juice; if I accidentally get shredded instead of pate, he’ll lick off the gravy and leave the rest. The dog gets quarter can of cat food with his breakfast, just so I’ll have juice for the cat. I often wonder who’s is charge around here? (And, yes, I know the answer.)
Pepper is a bit picky, he gets a packet of Whiskas at night, but he prefers certain flavours. He also has Purina One dry food on free feed. Did you know if there’s a tiny bit of the bowl showing through the kibble, that a cat will throw a hissy fit? I read that somewhere, and danged if it isn’t true! Pepper runs around yowling like a mad cat if his bowl isn’t full enough!
The dogs are on free feed with dry as well, with a can of wet food at dinner. I was soo mad when the stores here stopped carrying the wet Beneful :( My husband experimented and found another that met our standards, and they liked.
She didn’t save a penny buying something which she then had to throw away. My husband kept complaining that our cat wouldn’t eat any of the cans with gravy in them. Since he supplies the food and feeds her, I asked him why he didn’t just stop buying those cans. Answer? He had to use them up first.
The obligation is to provide nuitritious food, not cater to personal (felinial?) taste. “Eat it and be thankful.” “Beggars can’t be choosers.” “He’ll eat it when he gets hungry enough.” Words of wisdom from earlier generations.
You’re asking for trouble if you try to wait out a cat that won’t eat. Severe liver problems can develop in just 2 or 3 days—-any vet will tell you this.
Sorry Jimmy, but this is taken from “The Long Goodbye”. Marlow’s (Elliot Gould) cat will only eat “Curry brand cat food”. He runs out and makes a late night run to get some, but the store is out. He buys another brand and dumps it into the empty Curry can in the garbage and tells the cat – here it is Curry brand cat food – cat won’t eat it.

Towards the end, my cat could only eat a prescription food that cost $60 for an 8.5 pound bag.

They eat the dry kibble just fine. What’s the problem?

Dollar a can probably stinks more.

My cats only get dry cat food—of course served with plenty of water near by. This is both the ones who live inside and those that live outside.

My cats have to eat a brand I can only buy at the vet’s because one of them is prone to UTIs so it’s not like they or I have a choice in the matter.

I’ve had a number of cats. I’ve never had one that understood the concept of “humger strike.”

Fortunately my cats like Friskies canned food. Unfortunately it recently went up about .10 a can.
