Well, that was unexpected. If that was a topsides, and if his suit can only be damaged by specific tools (the switchblade not being one of them), why did he run? And why into the water? Unless he has some kind of camouflaged transport ship or base out on the water and he fled simply because he was found out and not because of any danger.
He could grab Chic, he could be marked with paint, and he displaced water as he fled. We could see his facial features, so no topsider helmet. Add in what appeared to be machine speech bubbles, and I’m thoroughly confused, yet completely engrossed in the story!
I agree with Duffy in the last frame: that wasn’t as Cathartic as I expected. However, everybody worked together and did their part…and this is how the Four Mutanteers got their start!
A theory…….Somewhere just off the coast rests a Lucranian converted ship which is lying at the bottom. The ship has lost it’s captain. This ditto form was his representation. While dittos don’t drown……little Bennies do. The ditto form doesn’t know that when it drags one to its ship to be the new captain. It’s not trying to kill….just doesn’t know. But if Wally is planning a sea voyage…the Great Green…his dittos could help the others…….a ship……maybe a submarine……might be in Wally’s future.
I don’t think Duffy touched it. It could be the water washed off the paint (maybe?), so all they could see then was its path thru the water. This is getting really interesting. Going to be interesting to see how/if the relationship between the 3 muntanteers and Chic changes.
Chick has a good reason to be terrified. Duffy’s gang is unfamiliar with this threat. Chick is very, very acquainted with it. They are now engaged in a tactical situation with a superior enemy. However at this point Chick seems to be the only one aware of this and what the ‘bogeyman’ really is. Duffy thinks it just ran off and the enemy numbers were only a single hostile. Aaron perfectly captures the moment before the storm…
Could be Arron Maxx. He can control dittos and could be hurt if stabbed. The question now is he doing this to protect Eden or not. Remember the spy in the sky (The Topsiders satellite could be still working.)
So I had a thought about what someone commented on the previous strip. What if this is a Watership Down situation, with the snare warren? Because if I remember right, the topsiders treat mutants as a food source.

It ran away, but will it return with more friends?

Just shows, for all his bragging, that Chic is not a hero.

So what was the mission?

Did he actually stab the water thing? Was it destroyed or did it just “dissolve”?

This is the way the world ends, not with a bang but a whimper.

An invisible Topsider? I wonder how that happened.

Look closely. This “face” is showing fear. I don’t see a Topsider. I think this an old Apex military helmet with comms. Wally use to wear one.
