This is cute and makes me long for the days when I had time to kill. I’m assuming that he disconnected the hose and is not dropping marbles into the vacuum cleaner. As long as he cleans up after himself, he’s doing a good job with keeping himself busy and satisfying some curiosity. Good job, Michael!
legaleagle48 - if you read Monday’s comments, you’ll realize that these aren’t ‘in order’. Apparently - from www.fborfw.com/strip_fix , 6 days of strips (Mo-Sa) went ‘missing’, so Lynn’s re-written these 6 strips. Thus, while Liz here is talking in full sentences, it help with the gag humour that Lynne is after.
What fun! I hope they aren’t scattered helter-skelter at the bottom like they are at the top, or tomorrow Mom or Dad will be bottoms-up slipping on them.
Just thinking - isn’t vacuuming the stairs an odd chore to give a small child (especially one who doesn’t know the meaning of caution yet)? All sorts of things can go wrong (vacuum cleaner falling down the stairs, child falling down the stairs, vacuum cleaner falling onto the child, child banging the walls with the vacuum cleaner and getting marks onto them, and of course, marbles being rolled into the machine); also, the stairs don’t look carpeted, so vacuuming isn’t necessarily the best way of cleaning them.
Just thinking aloud - I love this strip in general, but the stairs vacuuming just struck me as unusual. Have a good day, all!
NightOwl19 - wouldn’t it depend on the child, the stairs and the vacuum cleaner?
If Michael had vacuumed the stairs with his mom before, he might know how it is done. From the picture, I think it is a cannister vacuum at the bottom of the stairs. Michael would just be handling the hose and maybe a brush on the end.
If mom set up the vacuum at the bottom, it is unlikely the vacuum would fall or that it would be banging off the walls.
As to a child falling down the stairs: Mike has probably slid or bounced down those stairs on his butt a zillion times.
At that age, sliding down the stairs at home was a great rainy day sport in our house.
Never seen a canister vac with a hose long enough for a flight of stairs. Even for my shop vac, I had to graft a couple hoses together to do it. Only LONG hoses I have ever seen were for central vac systems. But why would you use a vac on non-carpeted stairs in the first place?
One of our neighbors in NOVa had a central vac system installed in his house. It was so expensive, I doubt it is cost effective.
We have a really long vacuum hose, but I don’t think it was stock. I think hubby bought tubing and transferred the ends from a stock vacuum hose.
Why would somebody vacuum non-carpeted stairs? I have no idea, but people do strange things. My next door neighbor has been known to prune low bushes with his lawnmower.
We have central vac – got the idea from a cottage we bought in Canada – with central vac (yes a cottage). It’s such a great idea and it wasn’t that expensive (especially when you take into account that husband vacs and wrecks a canister vac every couple of years – while this one has lasted abt 15 years or so). And we vacuum everything – stairs, wood floors, even dust vac the furniture – it’s so easy with central vac.

Huh. Elizabeth’s speaking in full sentences all of a sudden. She certainly left the baby talk behind in a hurry!

Michael, you better not to lose those valuable marbles while you play with that vaccum cleaner hose on the stairs.

If I remember right… they’ve got a central vacuum system… it should be interesting if the hose isn’t connected.

I can’t imagine Michael took the time to disconnect the hose. Uh oh…

Well, she is three now, so her speech would be pretty good by now.
