You’d think at some point, he’d learn to take Hobbes’ doubts into consideration… wait, I forgot. Calvin never likes to learn anything.

Aren’t driveways sloped AWAY from the garage?

Calvin’s rationale is just priceless. Every one of us wishes we could have thought of this when we were six.

This isn’t going to end well.

My mom doesn’t know where I live and she doesn’t have my phone number. She gave me the phone and I had the number changed. Hah! I fixed her:) Happy belated Mother’s Day you witch:) Son of a witch<;/

Six-Year old logic at work!

“Mom wouldn’t care about these things if she wouldn’t keep finding out about them” The logic… Not every time you go fishing do you catch a fish. Today, Calvin, you’re the fish.

Parents are the best ones to help you get out of a tight situation, but usually the last ones you want to tell you are in a tight spot. It is that whole, ‘I told you so’, for the rest of your life we want to avoid.

And how does she find out about them?

And Mom surely won’t find out that the car isn’t in the garage.

Calvin, it would be better if you built a treehouse.

And I thought it was bad trying not to spoil Avengers: Infinity War. I gotta keep my mouth shut about this story arc as well?

The old Law of Unintended Consequences

Knowledge is power.

Hey, don’t you think “finding out about” the car being in the drivway would be rather easy to do? Unavoidable, actually? (And poof there goes your “secret”.)

“Your Honor, it’s an OUTRAGE that (some) of my crimes were exposed to the public! And I have this here little Get Out Of Jail Free card……..”

Have to admit that Calvin’s line of thought in panel four is pretty unassailable. Sort of the same logic politicians (on BOTH sides) apply to voters and get away with.

Well, when what happens happens, she will certainly care…

I think I started to be able to keep secrets from my mom… part of the time… when I moved out of the house. Certainly not before that.

Calvin’s attitude boils down to this: “What she doesn’t know won’t hurt her.”

She’s definitely going to find out about this one….

Question: Why is Calvin imagining that Hobbes is opposing his ideas? Wouldn’t he imagine a friend that goes along with his ideas? Or is Hobbes basically his conscience telling him not to do bad things?

This comic strip is more confusing than some might think.

To be honest, Calvin is kind of being sexist.
