Wally’s Great Green trip may have a few more passengers. The bureaucrats will not tolerate disturbing stories disrupting their tranquility. Chic may even get the blame for all this with Wally, Kirbee, Chic, and even Irving being “new” to the colony.
So to get to the Beach of Mystery they had to enter a rough tunnel, climb up a ladder through a covered manhole to a surface ( a roof?), walk some distance on that surface until they are looking down on the beach (from at least a few stories up, it appears). They have to go down to reach the beach. The boys had installed the ladder themselves. If the Legend of the Screaming Woman had been passed along since Eden’s installation, it might be possible that this path evolved over the years with various other kids looking. But who heard the woman first, and decided to try to find her?
“It’s not that you kids went outside and created the risk of outsiders following you back and destroying the colony. It’s not even that your similar past behavior resulted in the death of one of the colonists. What is absolutely unforgivable is that none of you filed forms OS184-261 pages 124 to 324 prior to violating curfew.”
Hmmm, I wonder if the higher ups know about this and that is partially the reason why they stop the mining and move operations? Either to not alert the topsiders to EXACTLY where they are, or to not let the residence find out that the topsiders are there? Some kind of exchange/offering agreement? Did Benny ACTUALLY die, or was he just taken and ASSUMED to have died? Slave? Food? Experiment? The mind boggles (and wanders all OVER the place)!!

I have a feeling the bureaucracy will be sealing those kids outside.

Duffy, I think Chic has more than earned the right for you to call him by his name instead of just “Kid”.
What I’m now waiting to see is if the adults peering up the ladder already knew it was there, or is it a just-now discovery in a search for the kids.
