I don’t know, kids. Having your late father AND his horse stuffed and mounted by a taxidermist may have been overkill.

What is the REAL story behind this painting? Gotta be a doozey!

Lawyer and notary Ernst Carl Emil Lau (born 1822) in his house in Jägerstraße wth his wife Anna Ferdinandine Friederike Marie, née Meudtner, and sons Ernst abd Martin. The name of the horse, and the reason for riding the horse inside the house, is not recorded on the museum’s record. The single leg up pose on the horse must mean that Herr Lau’s wife maimed him for bringing the horse into the house.

O.K. O.K. I admit, in my younger years to have ridden my horse into saloons and bars on occasions, but what possessed this lawyer to ride his horse in his own home?

Even more puzzling is why the hell the artist painted him doing it!
