In its early days Google maps would route you across the Pacific from the west coast to get to Hawaii. Then it got a little better and told you to take a boat. Now it just says “Can’t find a way there”.
Back in the early days of personal GPS navigation systems (specifically the TomTom), this exact thing (well, the driving directions, not the actual driving off the cliff) happened in England. From a satellite view, the road that ended at the edge of a cliff intersected perfectly with the road 200 feet below.
However, there have been more recent instances of drivers “blindly” following their GPS, and ending up dead or close to it.

never select shortest distance… you wont like the travel.. river without a bridge,, railroad tracks with no crossing….etc.
