Lastly, notice how Locher is, apparently, trying to turn this flood situation into a commentary about how we afford too many rights to criminals. I suppose he thinks we’re coddling them if we don’t let them drown in Tracy’s urine.
Every day, Thick looks more and more like Boris Karloff as Frankenstein’s Creature.
How deep has this flood become? The car was under at least twelve feet of water, and the granary was on a rise at least ten feet high (my estimates, assuming the art work meant anything). If the Dipsy Duo is going to get trapped on the top floor, the water will have to rise at least another twenty feet. I don’t think the US has seen a flood that deep in historic times.
i love how dick didn’t notice that he was standing in 6 inches of water until the criminal mastermind pointed it out to him.
speaking of rights, i’m pretty sure mordred can sue tracy for pretty much any harm that may come, as this whole debacle was caused by tracy intentionally driving his chained passenger into a lake.
Seeking shelter from the storm
A place to be nice and warm
This granary seems to be just the place
Now there’s no rain in their face
Gratefully, Tracy mopped his brow
There was no need to have a cow
But Mordred had to open his mouth
And now things are going south
Water seeking its own level
Sure can play the devil
Will they climb to higher ground
Or are they soon to be drowned
Just where the hell are they lost
That they should be so tempest tossed
That new street corner lake
Certainly was not a fake
Whether in the country or the city
Their plight does not elicit pity
Save Mordred Tracy, if you will
Then save us from this swill.

To safeway674, I believe the greatest number of posts occurred on 1-26-09 with a total of 160. The four days starting on 1-24-09 and on to 1-27-09 were days of very spirited exchanges.
Maybe Locher itself drew panel #2. Thick’s fingers look like the sort of shapeless squiggles you see in his editorial cartoons. Either that or Brozman is a closet Trekkie and has Thick flashing that Vulcan “live long and prosper” gesture.
Thick’s feet must be as numb as his brain if he couldn’t feel the water and had to told by Mordred. Would anybody in their right mind build a granary where it could be flooded? Oh, I forgot, this is the storm of the century and water flows uphill.
Mordred must be stoned if he thinks his rights include having someone part the waters for him. Or is all this water Locher’s tacit admission that he’s gone off the deep end?
The Old Granary. Sounds like a hip new venue for local bands. Or possibly a brand of rye whiskey enjoyed by guys with van dykes who hang out at hip new venues for local bands.
The daily ’challenge’ of providing small talk continues and will until Dicky can work up enough gumption get the timing right for his second ACTION sequence ?
The first of course being his flipped POWER DRIVE last week
Readers have been waiting for eight weeks now for somthing of significance to happen. But we shouldn’t be surprised, nothing happens in Dicky’s stories until after week 8. Until then it’s ”dilly dally” like Daffy Duck !
Take a 2 week holiday in the Caribbean and just return for Friday, February 4, you’ll be back just in time for the next seminal moment
Yeah. I have a right not to be rained on too much, and the government is supposed to protect my rights, and you’re from the government, so start protecting.
The granary must be located at the foot of Hoover Dam and it broke. This must be Locher’s way of letting us know he was secretly employed as a consultant for the purpose of stragically locating buildings. Personally, I don’t think I’d let anyone know if I were him.
He’s talking to the smart detective again, so Lamont Cranston must have followed them inside. Or – Mordred might only be assuming that. Who knows where the Shadow might be? Mwahahahaha!
margueritem’s quick eye has noted Traccy’s face change in panel 2 (giving Brozman a ‘practise’ shot ?)
But bless Dicky’s dear old soul, while we know he has been gradually moving Dick Tracy into the comedic arena, I didn’t think he’d havs struck so soon …
Tracy’s looking just like a Stan Laurel action figure (?) If Mordred’s ’unmasked’ do you think we’ll have Oliver Hardy to complete the team ?
wndrwrthg nice comment on today’s inaction, the slow pace may be challenging you too ?
But your comment at the end to safeway674 interests me … wasn’t all that engineered by our ‘red sweatered’ chum aka Matty, aka The Magpie Man (?)
No need to answer !
As I recall Magpie Man contributed over 30 posts on the main day and Liam found himself having to do a whole lot of censoring (?)
Those guys are out of the ”commenting” business now. Having faced the veracity of Locher reality, one could say that they have slipped into a state of remission
Sydney Phillips the “POWER DRIVE last week” actually took place on Dec 24! I Know! It seems like yesterday but also seems so long ago - they’ve been wandering for 3 1/2 weeks, like a mini-Moses.
“And lo, the rains shall begin to fall without letup,
And there shall be forty days and forty nights of pointless conversation,
And all shall drown because Thick never heard the command to build an ark!”
The story is not great. But I must admit, Locher is trying for the first time to provide readers an interesting storyline with a classic tastes. And I like that! This is the best storyline in months for Dick Tracy.
Hate me, now!
How long will the building stand? I ask because it occurs to me that granaries were never built to withstand heavy seas in a storm. So, as the water rises and the waves batter the old building we could see that protecting Mordred’s rights are the least of their problems.
With what? Are there any tools or nails in the building? And where did all the light come from to see with? Or did Tracy say, “Let there be light and there was.”?

If Mordred is going to kill Tracy, he’d better hurry. That flood, and pretty soon the waves will finish the old granary and kill them both.

As the water rises, they will be on the roof -
then a rescue helicoper will come along to save them.
Dick goes first and then while Mordred is climbing the ladder,
that extra weight of the chains will bring down the chopper
killing everyone
