So true!

We all want better for our kids. But sometimes more isn’t better. That’s hard for people to remember.

Reminds me of a song I use to here on “Captain Kangaroo”.

A child singing to Santa, “Please give my Daddy an Electric Train.”

I think most parents want to give their kids the things they never had. Unfortunately, too many don’t give their kids the things they did have, like discipline, morals, values, integrity, responsibility, etc.

And I am proud to say I had all five and wore them all out playing with them. Except #5. It is still around.

When I was fourteen (1963), I bought a electric motor/Van-der-Graaf generator for three bucks. I hand wound the electric motor that powered the generator. The generator produced long spectacular static electricity sparks . It lit dead light bulbs and florescent tubes and was lodes of fun. I spent more time playing with it that any toy I ever had.

I loved my pail and shovel in the sand box!

^CATLADY: You said it all. I have six grandchildren and only one of them attends church, holds a good job (three aren’t old enough to work though), raising her twin boys to say bedtime prayer, and feeds them healthily. Two others with children feed them junk and too much of it. Part of the childhood obesity problem. School age ones barely passing due to TV and gaming, plus constant telephone and texting. Makes me sick.

@gaebie–Thanks for the link. I remember these toys very well from my childhood. We had the most fun with these things that didn’t require a lot of money. We didn’t have much of that to spare, but we had plenty of imagination and a great time with what we did have.

TexTech - I buy my own toys now… they just happen to be crazy expensive and complicated. :D

Add a safety pin to the stick and string and you can catch a fish.

My mom so does that with me! She never got very many new clothes as a kid, so at the beginning of the school year, she’ll buy me a TON that I dont nedd and always buys shirts if hey are on sale. I have the best mom…
