I was shocked when my bff and I found each other on Facebook after 20 years. I mistook her for her mom! :/ Very few of my classmates look young as I do, thanks, Mama, you gave me great DNA :)
Back in ‘04 I went with my husband to his 25th high school reunion. At one point, a guy came & sat next to us & started talking to me. He was going on & on, and I was just politely nodding & smiling. My husband just sat back & enjoyed the show. The guy gave the distinct impression of, "I don’t know you, but I was super-popular so of course you know me!" Finally, he gave me the opening I was waiting for: “Isn’t it amazing that it’s been 25 years?” I smiled & answered, “Maybe for you, but not for me; it’s HIS [pointing at my husband] reunion!” He immediately deflated & slunk away. (It was an interesting reunion, as a lot of people were talking about upcoming grandchildren, and there I was, 6 months pregnant!) Oh, and for the record, it’s the only reunion either of us attended for either of us.
I attended my 50th HS reunion several years back. I expected to see a bunch of old, bald, fat men. There were a few, but I was amazed by how good most of us looked. I heard the word, “cardiologist” only once in conversation.
About a tenth of the class showed up. We lost about a quarter of them (mostly to AIDS – it was running rampant in our generation for a long while before anyone knew what it even was) and only ONE to “military action.” We graduated in 1966, the height of the Vietnam War.
I never went back for any reunions. A few people I went to school with show up in the store where I work from time to time. Most have gained weight had kids etc. Very few do I recognise right away though, I must still look similar to how I did back then, as a lot of them call me by name. From what they tell me when we chat for a couple minutes and what I see while ghosting on facebook, I am one of the biggest failures in my class… no kids, widowed, not dating, dead end job that I’ve had for over 20 years, yet I get the impression i’m happier than most because I’ve accepted what life handed to me and made peace with it. I graduated high school 30 years ago this year and still think back to it a lot as the first couple years of high school were as good as my life ever got, before the recurring bouts of depression, failures and loses that broke my spirit took effect.
I can’t get over how much negativity there is here about high school reunions! I didn’t particularly like high school and never did much back then, but the reunions have been great, especially since I still have a full head of hair (although rather grey/white) and weigh about the same I did back then. At my 40th, 8 years ago, it seemed to me that most of the women still looked pretty good but many of the guys had aged a lot (not just fat and bald but also many were unhealthy looking). I loved being able to confidently talk to the women who back then were the girls I would have been terrified to talk to (cheerleaders, etc.); also, hearing that I was one of the nicest guys in the class, etc.,etc. and how well I was thought of (I just wish I had known that back then!). The only real bad thing was seeing how many classmates had since died (and this was when we were only 58!).

When I went to my 40th reunion, all the hot girls who wouldn’t even speak to me in high school were there and they were FAT. There is a god…

I’d rather remember them youthful then old and fat.

Peter scooping ice cream into a bowl.. is not realistic.. as a teen and with no parents in the house he would be eating right out of the container.

A graduate from our class hijacked the 40th reunion and held it at his bar. $40 each open bar. I can’t drink $40 of booze.
