Is lamb expensive in America?

Robbed a bank, then took it on the lam[b].

It seems that Arlo is not the only one who’s concerned about the kids’ finances and spending.

At least Arlo and Janis know Gus is there. We don’t get the cliche of Janis saying something that Gus, overhears, takes wrong, and gets insulted.

Waiting for Janis to bust Arlo for laughing. Sure she thinks Gus is a bore.

Re Panel 4. I like the way Jimmy treated the background color, separating the two vignettes. He seems to be experimenting with that lately. Gives it a sort of 3D effect in this case.

Lamb shoulder chops are the cheapest cut. Not as elegant as rib chops, but just as tasty.

Lamb is from adult sheep. Veal is from juvenile sheep.

No GUS, they decided it would be nice to treat their parents to something other than seafood – enjoy and don’t be grumpy

The best lamb obtainable in the U.S. comes, believe it or not, from New Zealand, and it isn’t cheap. That’s what I used to use when I roasted a leg of lamb in the spring. American lamb tends to taste muttony. N.Z. lamb comes from the South Island, which is wet and verdant green, while mutton and lamb from the U.S. comes from the high dry plains. Sheep, like goats, will eat just about anything.

Dammit, with Gene and his clan back, this comic is going nowhere fast.
