Understand his feelings. Sometimes the world shrinks without warning and one’s experience and knowledge suddenly appear to be non- applicable to some jobs. Same with age. One naturally shrinks in physical stature, and, it appears one’s ‘world experience’ shrinks as well.
I used to enjoy spending a few minutes each day between other projects in relaxing with +word puzzles. Don’t relax much anymore. Many of the puzzles published since the early 2000’s deal with names, events, idioms, and terms about which I have no idea, I guess because, having retired, I am no longer involved with a wide mass of people and events in the news.
My world definitely is narrower than it once was, but it isn’t all bad. There are still good libraries nearby and occasional tv shows and reruns that are enjoyable.
Attitude and health determine your ‘age’, not your birth certificate. Manditory retirement by some large corporations is changing. Small companies owners are more apt to know all employees and which should and hope will not retire.
Bleep that! Except for the time I was a teacher I spent many years making more money for other people than I made for myself. Even though I’m rapidly approaching geezerhood I now have the most important and undervalued job in the world. I’m a full time stay-at-home father trying to raise 3 very spirited young boys and help my ailing wife. I just hope I live long enough to become a burden to them in my old age. 1
I had one horrible boss & one wonderful boss. In that order…the first harmed my soul & the next one healed it! We should all be so lucky to have the second one!
It’s amazing how much I visit our local library. I used to be a book buyer, but so many books are either worth a single reading or simply skimming. I can usually get a look at a book before I buy it. . .and now, instead of going on the shelves, the books that I do buy go into my Kindle or Kindle app on my lap top. NO DUSTING BOOKS!! Yeah!

Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional.
