You know love makes the world go round / And love, Rover makes the seesaws go up and down / And it makes trees grow tall / And the most important thing of all / It makes a boy and dog, oh / Say they feel so fine, now (feel so fine)

We used to do this and have somebody push you at the same time. The bad part was hitting one of the poles of the swing set.

When our kids were young, we had a Scottie named Susie. She would swing with the boys as well as ride the skateboard and sleigh ride .

The swings with chains didn’t work so well, it was too hard to get much of a twist.

Pixie the dog for my sister who like everything else she got bored with. In addition to the bicycle rides in the basket with me she loved going to the park and me holding her while we slide down the slide or got on the swings….I’d get doggy kisses and tail wags and she’d be by my side the rest of the day and evening.

I made a comment after one post about when the story was set. My thoughts about the time Red was about during the 1960’s. Martin had relatively long hair, even Red’s hair as longer. I had said I thought it was in the collection, “Waggin tales” But I meant to say it was from-“A Boy, a dog, a Time and a Feeling”, The first collection. In that book Red seemed younger and his hair was longer.Comparing heads, his hair was not so much longer, but his head was higher. Many people that are Not artists think the eyes are pretty close to the top of the head, when actually the eyes are closer to half way between the top of the head and the chin.I thought he was cuter that way too. Now he looks less like a child of the 60’s and closer to the earlier 50’s when hair couldn’t touch the collar. (Martin’s hair would have been outlawed). In the 60’s so many restrictions were loosened up and it was a more relaxed time.I feel so lucky to have been a small child in the fifties and a teen in the 60’s, a Great time to have grown up in. I could walk through miles of fields with my dog and nobody knew where I was, or could even have found me. We had PRIVACY then. I would Not have been able to recognize today by our restrictive BIG Brother type government, and our lack of privacy, and some other manifestations of the New World Order. Our nation was always friends with our allies in Europe, didn’t trust the USSR, and several other big changes.

When I was growing up our neighbors had a two person hand driven merry go round. I’m not really sure what to call it. It had a lever you pushed and pulled (pumped?). The faster you pumped the faster you would go. I went home several times with a motion headache, but it was fun!
