Quirky little shops with cats in them are nice, but I always hope that the cat isn’t left there by itself all night. I suppose that some may have an apartment for the people upstairs.
Continuity! Backstory infilling! An interconnected environment where characters know other characters, and they interact even if they don’t know they’re doing so! My favorite things! swoon
Except not really, swooning is a silly thing that happened to people who had to wear corsets. And it makes it hard to pet cats. Or read.
A bit off topic, my parents have a new kitten and they are having some problems with him bitting. I figured what better place to ask advice about getting a kitten to stop bitting than here with so many people with experience with cats.
Hehe! We know whom it was sleeping in her greenhouse! Yes we do! Sunshine purrsonified! On another note.. I know she’s battling the big bad “C” and last we heard her treatment was working.. but I would still feel better hearing she’s surviving. We love you Witcheeminx and we’re all rooting for you and all Orbsters here dealing with serious ailments! Our local Wild Birds Unlimited has a store kitty. There is a sign on the door “Don’t let the cat out.” I have never seen it show any interest in going outside.
I’d like to thank all Orbsters who sent prayers, boops and purrs my way for my surgery on Tuesday. All went as planned, and my surgeon thinks all the cancer was removed. We must wait for the final pathology report to be sure. Am uncomfortable, sore and bruised, but otherwise fine. So grateful for the Power of the Orb! ♥♥♥
My mom started taking me to her favorite book store when I was around 12 and its now my favorite book store. The lady who runs it lives over the store in a building built in the 1880s. When you enter the door, there is a smell that envelops you, the smell of lavender and old books. You wander around and find a few to check out, go find an overstuffed easy chair, and start to peruse them, and one of 3 calicos will find your lap and your hands automatically begin to rub and the purring begins. I have to admit to having to be woken up once or twice, holding a book, and being surrounded by calico sweetness of one in my lap, one on my shoulders and one on the arm of the chair. One of my favorite places in this world. When I retire, I would love to own this store. There would always, always be book store cats!
Here in NYC, we have, Bodega Cats. They are the most laid back cats, in the world! They have free rein of the stores that they own and some even sit out side the store, but never go far!
Just found out that beloved Grumpy Cat, a.k.a. Tardar Sauce, has passed away at the too young age of 7 from complications of a urinary tract infection. So sad.
I love the world Georgia is creating. The humans and the other animals all having interconnected stories. Knowing someone/some cat that you did not already know you knew.
Now with your indulgence. I am going to attempt something that scares the heck out of me. I am going to write down a story that has been in my head for while. I use to write when I was in High School – yes it was a long time ago. No – it was not on cave walls in France. I did not pursue it because an English teacher severely criticized my work and so I just stopped. But all of you were so kind with my stories about Giblet and Belle that I am trying again. Note, I write fast to get the words out, but grammar and punctuation suffer.-——————————————————————————-Giblet & Belle, And The Case Of The Missing Ring
Giblet heard the soft footfalls coming across the carpet in the big bedroom. This bedroom was where his people slept. The smaller people had their own bedroom, and other cats frequented those, but the BIG bedroom was his domain.
A soft voice called up to Giblet on the bed; “Giblet…you awake?”
One eye open, he contemplated not answering. After all, he was a big Tom cat and not use to answering the questions of persnickety kittens. Besides, kittens should be rarely seen and never heard. That was the way of things.
However, he knew that these newfangled kittens did not appreciate decorum and civility. Giblet was a Gentle Cat, a cat of refinement. Giblet was slightly larger than most cats with wonderful markings. He had big fluffy whiskers, soft and shiny fur, and handsome coloring with a splash of white under his chin and going down the center of his chest. If you looked at him, he looked like he was wearing a waste coat with a white cravat. All that was missing was a fob and a dark, mahogany walking stick.
Now most of you are wondering, how does a cat know what a cravat is? Here is a secret…Cats can read. Yes they can! They just don’t make a point of showing up People with their abilities. People, after all, have fragile egos, not like Cats. And Giblet’s People had a great selection of books. So many in fact, that the Man People told the Woman People that he was never going to move these heavy (human word that is not nice) books again. So, Giblet the handsome, well-read Cat knew what a cravat was. And while he didn’t look exactly like Mr. Darcy, he certainly did look like Mr. Darcy’s Cat.
“Wake up Giblet…Let’s play.” Meowed Belle from the floor.
Belle was the new addition to the Family after McKayla, the grand old cat, had crossed the Rainbow Bridge a couple of months before. None of the other cats were especially close to McKayla. She did not invite familiarity. But they all looked up to her, respected her and valued her insights. She was old even in People years. The Cats all agreed that if McKayla did not know the answer to the question, it was not worth knowing.
One more soft “Please” came up from the floor. Giblet leaned over and looked down at Belle. She was a pretty, all black Cat with bright yellow eyes and soft paws. She was a bundle of energy and it exhausted Giblet just watching her.
“What do you want Belle?” Giblet purred. “I just started my early, mid-morning nap.”
“I want to explore the house while the People are gone.” Replied Belle. “I want you to go with me.”
Good morning, all! I am glad that Beatrix may find her furever home, but Elvis will be devastated unless he gets a chance to say goodbye and hear why she is leaving him.
On another note, I’ve finished another blanket! Starting yet another this morning.
All the negative posts about Beatrix’s story arc are hampering my enjoyment of the comic. When a kitty finds her purr-fect fur-ever home, we should be happy for her, not selfishly wishing that she were a foster fail.
As a result, I can’t help but feel that it might be best for me, if I stop reading the comments until well after Beatrix has safely completed the move into the best possible home she could have. I don’t think I can handle reading even one more comment complaining that she won’t be staying in the big pink house.
Just had some sad news from my daughter – they had to put their older dog to sleep. He was quite elderly for a dog and was having trouble breathing. The vet said there was no cure. I know she was not looking forward to this at all even though she knew it was coming.
It needn’t interrupt her finding a furever home, but I’ve been waiting desperately for Bea to set up the BCN media accounts, and especially the selfie she takes of them all!!!!!
I used to live with a woman who owned a used bookstore in Fort Collins, Colorado. She fully subscribed to the bookstore-cat theory except that she became allergic at one point.

Every bookstore should have a cat*
*as long as precautions are taken so the cat can’t accidentally wander/escape out into the street and get lost, injured, or worse.
