Not really. You can fool yourself with emotions, but you can’t do it with logic.

That’s what daydreams are for – to make the present habitable.

Well, my squirrels are building nests and dropping 2 of every 3 leaves/branches they cut. So I can dig the cleanup.

My dilemma is where they’re working … who’s helping in who’s yard?

The technique I use, when I must (as seldom as possible) is to add something to the unwanted task. Something at least marginally fun. For instance as a kid I had to sit through “10 minute” sermons that lasted up to 20 minutes (clock time) or 20 hours (internal time). Eventually I hit upon counting the number of times he said “and uh”, on one set of fingers, and the number of “um” on the other. He was easily capable of getting above 100 on both once he got the teeth between his bit. (Yeah, he did that too).

Eat your heart out, Kafka. I’ll see your metamorphosis and raise you the smell of island air and fresh grass clippings over whatever flies hang out in.

Thomas Pynchon, I can’t make a sentence quite as impenetrable as you can, but don’t look over your shoulder. I think I’m showing some potential.

Start with a false or incorrect premise leads to false conclusions.
