Oh, I love the fact you wrote Higgins Boat on the wagon! I was just thinking to myself, “What he needs is a Higgins boat,” and there it was. Good show.
Dogs too helped liberate Europe from the tyranny and oppression. The dogs wore their own parachutes and were trained to jump after bones/treats. It would appear that they were not distressed by the experience and after a few practice jumps they would often exit the aircraft without coaxing.
When I was in the Army in the early ’60s, one day my CWO-4 grandboss showed up in his class-A uniform, with a 101st Airborne combat patch and with fourrageres for the French and Belgian Legions of Honor and the Dutch Orange Lanyard. There were so many of these guys I regret never talking to back then.
Thanks, Brian, for educating us about Higgins boats (https://cs.stanford.edu/people/eroberts/courses/ww2/projects/fighting-vehicles/higgins-boat.htm). My husband and I are studying D-Day this week and we thank your beloved duo for their respect and reference.
A lot of good men and women died. Do you ever wonder if one of them would have found the cure for cancer or made a contribution to the welfare of mankind?
