In the mid 1960s nearly every kid had heard that one and lots of other elephant jokes. e.g. Green sneakers version is for hiding on pool tables. … or … How do you get down off an elephant? You don’t! It comes from ducks!
Barney Google with the goo-goo-googly eyes! Barney Google with the wife three times his size. . .I forget: Which one is Snuffy and which one is Barney?

Amazing! They’re older than me. Before I was born they had about 2½ times longer life than Calvin. One thing’s for sure, Snuffy isn’t paying.

Imagine: If the strip had been named “Barney Finzendorfer”, you’d have to Finzendorfer his name.

What a nice sentiment, to honor an old classic. Refreshing.

I loved ole Snuffy Smith. He was the Hillbilly version of Andy Capp.
I don’t remember Barney Google except for the song: Barney Google (with the goo-goo-googely eyes)

There’s also a Barney Google tribute in “Mutts” today, quoting the old song about him.
