I had a cat several years ago that would get mad if she thought you had been gone longer than necessary. She would sit across the room with her back to me for a while, then she would sit just out of reach with her back to me. As she got closer to forgiving me, she would sit on the arm of my chair and let me pet her, still not once looking at me or purring. Then finally she would sit in my lap, look at me and purr, once I had earned her forgiveness.
You haven’t been shunned, until you’ve been shunned by a cat. The Miffed Maine Coon has developed this to a fine art. But he was trained by the best (my avatar). However, my Giant Ginger Gentleman is way too co-dependent to shun me for longer than it takes him to get to the front door and wrap himself around my leg when I’ve been away.
