June 4 is Hug Your Cat Day. Annie and I have a lot of hugging to do today! And what would Chesney think if Annie tried hugging him?
It’s also National Safe Day. I don’t know if they mean safe like you keep your money in or if they mean as in stay safe today. Believe me, I would not be safe if I tried to hug my cat, April. She’d rip my face off. She hates to be touched. Hugging is a BIG no-no.
It’s also National Cheese Day. Grilled cheese sandwich for lunch, perhaps?
It’s also Old Maids Day. I guess at 60 and never married, I’d qualify as an old maid. But no, I’m happy the way I am and I don’t think of myself as old and certainly not as an old maid.
And it’s National Cognac Day. I don’t drink alcohol but for those who do, have an extra one for me.
Okay, he’s been carrying out his self-appointed job very conscientiously:
The duckling and turkey poults are now outside in a pen, he has been laying around in there with them, just hanging with them and making sure that nothing can attack them. This is interesting because this is the same cat that leads hunting excursions of the entire tribe to an area across the road where there are a good many critters to hunt – including a lot of wild ducklings.
I can only put this down to some kind of cat/whatever the heck he was/is pragmatism. Family is to be protected, all else are fair game.
A fairly distant neighbor – a little old lady of 80 years – came by to talk with Pat. (The neighbor came to ask for medical advice (Pat was an extremely good nurse for a number of years) and good medical care is hard to find and harder still to afford around here.) She commented on the dangerous cat we have in the area. Seems she came by a couple of times before when we were out and was confronted by this ferocious beast that would not let her get near the front door or the livestock in the yard.
Curious one – in talking with the next door neighbor she commented on Alpha’s propensity for popping into her house, visiting with the children and generally acting as the cat ambassador. What surprised us was when she commented that Alpha also enjoyed the beer that her husband gives him. A secret tippler, obviously.
A not so good one – Alpha bought a tiny kitten in to my wife. He was obviously asking her to help it. Sadly, it was already dead. Then, compounding the problem, he went out and brought back a second kitten in the same condition. Unfortunately, even his human friends couldn’t fix this one for him…
Well, i’m fostering a little black cat.She is residing in my back bedroom, for now.If, before i find a home for her, Sweetheart will come to accept her, i’ll keep the little thing around.Such a sweet little cat. :)
I bet there are lots of stories about Chesney. Very few of them good. (Well, there was that one time he saved Oliver from being swindled by those mice, but that’s it.)

I suspect Chesney is lurking in the background already mad at not being invited and soon to be livid when he overhears these stories.
