Maybe the NRA can donate surplus guns to these kids at Christmas time: Pistols for Youngsters.

    This is just sad!

That a cartoon from 1993 is still germane.

To be funny the punchline requires you have a state of mind that safety is a meaningfully attainable state. Its not, we will never be safe because once we feel we are, we will push the boundaries of our existence until we are not. Ideals are only dragons we chase.

Every few years, you will hear a call from the gun nuts calling for mandatory gun ownership. You know. For safety. They seem to believe that everyone should have the right to own a gun but no one should have the right to not own one.

How is it that the party that thinks women are incapable of protecting the innocent lives they bear, and that government must do so for them, also thinks that more guns, that kill about eight innocent children every day, must be totally free from any government action at all? BTW, even Scalia said there was nothing in the 2nd Amendment preventing States from regulating guns… If stronger gun laws save even one innocent life, is that not worth some inconvenience?

Interesting how far back these debates went. The Brady bill passed though as did the assault weapons ban.

Year to date in Chicago, 1,192 people have been shot. In the Chicago Blood Bath of 2016, 4,380 people were shot. Source: Heyjackass dot com. For those who scream the Second Amendment, well here it is: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed”. Notice that the opening phrase sets the context of “Militia”. The Second Amendment concerns the military. The street gangs of Chicago still have the right to “bear Arms” because the Illinois Constitution says “The State militia consists of all able-bodied persons residing in the State except those exempted by law.” To be exempt, a shooter has to be caught and convicted. Shooters are rarely caught and the bodies continue to keep the morgue busy.

    Sad but True:

More Americans have been Killed with Guns by March 6th this year than died on D-Day.

Also: More US school-age children die from guns than on-duty US police or global military fatalities.

The US is at the head of countries that are not at war with themselves an yet still have high death rates.
