Just so you know: A podium is a low platform that you stand on to give yourself a few more inches of height for public speaking. A lectern is a post with a sloping platform on it that you put the book you’re reading from on. He’s at a pulpit, which blocks the audience’s view of the speaker from the waist down. It’s not uncommon to have a podium behind a pulpit.
